So that my magazine attracted and appealed my target audience I made sure that I knew both the interests and the lifestyle choices because these are the people I am trying to market my magazine towards. By understanding them more I can cater my magazine towards them making it more suitable. Before identifying my exact target audience, I produced a review/ profile on a typical audience member, who enjoyed the genre of punk rock music.
The audience member I have chosen is Rebecca (displayed in the photo above) she is 16 years old and a full time student at Sunderland college. In order to give me a basic understanding of the type of audience who would be likely to purchase and enjoy reading my magazine, I interviewed Rebecca to find out more about her interests. She enjoyed socialising with friends and likes going to big social gatherings/events. She also enjoyed listening to a range of music specifically in the rock or punk genre such as Blink 182, Green day and You Me At Six. She has often attended gigs and concerts, which included both a range of high profile and unknown bands. She has previously purchased magazines such as Kerrang and Mojo therefore I know she will be the perfect audience member for my magazine. Her clothing is influenced by her favourite genre of music (rock/punk) this means dark and casual clothing.
After gaining a basic understanding of the type of audience I will be aiming my magazine towards, I was able to determine by specific target audience who I would define as those of both a male and female gender, between the ages of 16 to 25 and often are in college/university or have a part time job. To allow me to understand how I will appeal to my target though my magazine, I created a questionnaire on survey monkey. Below are the questions and options my survey gave.
Below this are the answers taken by one individual
From the answers provided on this particular individual you can see that my target audience mainly enjoy listening to rock music. They spend the majority of their money on concert/gig tickets. They are mainly of a working class background and attend college as students. They spend a lot of their day listening to music and enjoy magazines such as NME and Mojo. I have also found out that in a magazine they like to see included tour dates and are willing to pay between £3-£4 this helps me to know a lot more about my target audience and the production of a magazine.
I also asked my audience to note down whether or not they would purchase my magazine and why. one individuals feedback is placed below.
