Preliminary Task

flatplans:

This is my contents page fat plan, we used the conventions of secondary images, pull quote, a main title, page numbers, information. it also includes a box out of advertisements including companies and competitions which i think we fit to my audience.
This is the image of my front cover flat plan it  includes conventions such  as a masthead, essential information, main sell line, cover lines, puff, barcode, banner and main image. which we are going to create in a group
These are the flat plans that we created previous to creating our magazine cover. we created flat plans for  a contents page and front cover. We only re created the front cover and ensured we chose the right conventions that would stick to our student audience.

front cover:

This is my preliminary task, as a group of 4 we went out and took photos using a cannon camera, once we decided which image we wanted we decided to use photoshop in order to edit it so it looked like a college magazine and fit the conventions of a typical magazine. we used a certain colour scheme in order to give the magazine welcoming feel for new students. we decided to do a mid shot showing only our head and shoulders because if you were talking to someone face to face you wouldn't see anymore of that person, so this gives a more personal effect. furthermore we chose to do an indirect mode of address because this makes the image look less staged and more natural. we added a puff on the bottom of the page because by adding competitions people are more likely to look at your magazine for the chance to win something. Moreover we added a masthead of 'college life' this means it shows all aspects of the college not just the studious part, this is positioned at the top third of the page so it is the first thing the reader sees, we made it black so it stands out above the blue background. we decided to use cover-lines to show other aspects of the college pulling in readers and added a main cover line and sub head using rhetorical questions so the readers feel like the questions will be answered inside therefore they purchase it to read on. i feel the preliminary task was successful because it fits all the conventions of this type of educational magazine and looks professional. Furthermore we stuck to the flat plans and used all the conventions that we named. we added price and website (essential information) such as shown in the flat plan. i think overall the magazine has a casual but professional feel.
Contents page trial:

This is our groups contents page that we have created. We used photoshop to create a mock up our flat plan for our magazine 'college life'. we kept most things the same to our flat plan however we did make some modifications such as we over lapped the title with the secondary image and got rid of the idea of a pull quote we did this because we thought it made the page look to cluttered and crowded. we kept the colour scheme the same as the magazine cover so that a colour flows throughout the magazine and it matches the genre and type of magazine and in this case it is educational so it isn't too in your face or bright.
